Post Op Appointment #1

Today we went to meladee's post op appointment and it was pretty much good news. There is still fluid around her right lung and just just a slight pocket of fluid around her heart. She is staying on both medications for a little while long. We go back to Children's next weekevas well as seeing her normal doctor. But the glue they used on her incision has come off and her scar is looking really good. That is the latest as to what is going on now.

Happy to be home

We have been home since Sunday and loving it. Meladee is doing really good and about 90% herself and almost eating like normal. We have a few doctors appointments in the next few weeks. We want to thank everyone for their love, support, thoughts, and prayers. Meladee and I love you all.

Day 13 Post Op day 12

Ok so there is a chance we are going home tomorrow sometime, but that is no promise.

Today Grammie, Papa and Jake were here and Meladee was a very happy girl.

They brought her a swing today and she is loving it she can sit and look around and she is not in the crib or being held.  We also get to go walking around as well, so we may go for a walk later for a little bit just to get her out of the room.

The plan is tomorrow is to get a chest x-ray and lab work in the morning and see what that says, if it is all good, that is when we will find out if we can bust out of this joint or not.  It still depends on how the fluid looks in her lungs.  Like I said it is no promise.

Day 12 Post Op Day 11

Sorry for the delay for the update for this day, Meladee decided to stay up late last night.

It was a good day, Meladee had a new visitor yesterday, Momma's friend Rony come up to see her for the first time.  She really liked him and had a blast playing with him.  And then that night Papa came and saw her after work so she was really happy.

Good news is, the fluid in her lungs is getting lower and she is of the IV lasiks and back on the oral medication.  She is drinking more formula everyday and starting to eat more food.  They say it may take her a few weeks to get back up to where she was before but we are getting there.

So, yesterday was a good day.

Day 11 Post Op Day 10

Today was a great day.

Meladee got not only her external pace maker off but the wires out as well.  She also ate just a little bit more today than she did yesterday, which for her is really good.  A little over half way to what she was eating before.

Tomorrow morning she has another chest x-ray to see how low the fluid is now.  The lower it gets the closer we get to going home and believe me I don't know who is more anxious to get home her or me.

Momma also gave her a semi bath tonight which she loved and was asleep by ten tonight.  We are slowing getting back on schedule. 

Day 10 Post Op Day 9

For the second day in a row Meladee's heart has been beating like it should, so tomorrow they should be taking her off the pace maker but leaving the wires in just in case, if all goes good she will have the wires taken out on Friday.

She still has fluid around her lungs, they are doing another chest x-ray in the morning to see if it has gone back down or not. They did put her back on Lasik IV m...edication instead of having it my mouth. We will see how that all plays out in the morning.

She is eating really good, took in the same amount as she did yesterday and some food with it too. She also has gained weight as well but still al ittle under what she came in at.

So all in all she had a good day. Will update tomorrow with information we get from the doctor in the morning.

 

 

Day 9 Post Op Day 8

Today we got some good news, Meladee's junction of her heart is finally working correctly for the last 24 hours.  If it continues to work this way the chances of her having to have a pace maker go down even more, even though we have it scheduled for Friday to have it done just to be safe.  Between tomorrow and Thursday we will find out when she gets to go home.

She also had a chest x-ray this morning and the fluid in her lungs is going down more, they will do another one tomorrow more and we will go from there with that.

As for eating, she is eating more but I am going to find out tomorrow morning exactly how much they want her to eat a day and how often.  That just hasn't been that clear, just was told she ate less yesterday than she did the day before so, we need to work that out.

Also, Grammie got to hold her for the first time today since her surgery so they both were very happy today. 

Day 8 Post Op Day 7

Sorry for no Meladee update last night she was having a rough night and only wanted me all night long. I didn't get her settled until midnight and then I went to bed myself. But the good news is that we are out of CICU and in a regular room. We got moved about 1 this afternoon or a little after. A little before that they took out her central line so she only has her pacer wires and her IV in h...er right hand.

She is still hooked up to the pace maker just for back up. They are still waiting to figure out my her rythm is right with her heart. It is either from some swelling still or another issue, hopefully by Wednesday or Thursday we will know what is going on and we will go from there.

As for going home, we do not know yet. But one step at a time. I will update tomorrow.

Day 6 Post Op Day 5

So today we had a minor set back.  Meladee is still in CICU, late this morning her heart rate dropped in half. They hoped that she would get back up on her own but it did not happen so they put her back on the pace maker and after that she is back where she needs to be. 

However, she is now off oxygen and the levels are in the mid 90's so that is going good and she should get her central line out in the morning if everything goes as planned.  So, with some luck maybe tomorrow she will be moved to the floor, the have already put her in a floor bed this morning.

So, right now she is sleeping like a good girl and she is also starting to eat more as well.  We will see what the next few days bring for us.  She is a very strong little girl.

Day 5 Post Op Day 4

Meladee is still in CICU today but hopes she will be moved tomorrow.  We are still here because what was supposee to happen last night didn't happen and this momma was not happy about it and voiced her opinion to the nurse and doctor this morning.  Now Meladee is able to have anything she wants food wise and is only on tylenol for pain and is doing just time.

She was smiles and laughs today and tonight she is talking and playing with me and the nurse she has.  I am so happy to see it.  Right now she is watching Happy Feet 2 and playing with her feet and laughing.

Let's hope it all goes well and we get on the floor tomorrow.

Day 4 Post Op day 3

Today was a really good day.  First off Meladee got to eat today and then I got to hold her.  The doctor came in this evening and said that they are going to take her off her blood pressure medication and if she stays stable tonight and her chest x-ray tomorrow morning is good then we should be able to be moved to the other floor.  They were able to get her heart stable today with medication that she will have to take for three to six months.  So all and all it was a really good day and we could have another big day tomorrow.

Today was a big day

Today Meladee got her tubes and vent out.  She has done good again today.  Right now she is asleep again and when she wakes up we will be giving her food.  One big thing she still has to do is get her heart rymth insync and we will be good to go, she is still on the pacemaker.

Post Op Day 2

Meladee had a really good day today.  They are decreasing the amount of stuff they are giving her to dailate her lungs, she should be off of that by the morning.  She is actually sleeping today.  She is looking a lot better.  Acorrding to the doctors she is doing better than they expected.  So hopefully tomorrow she will be off the ventolater and will be able to be eating and I will be able to hold her.  I took some pictures of her today and you can see how much better she looks.

Surgery was today

Right now Meladee and I are in CICU at Children's Hospital and she is doing good, she is hooked up to fluids now and they may wean her off of a medication they are using to dilate her lungs.

As for the surgery she did really well.  They were able to repair everything and the pulmoary valve didn't have to be replaced.

Right now is sedated but when I go over to her bed she wants to wake up and they don't want her to do that right now, they may start doing that tomorrow.

Pre-Op Surgery Update

Ok everyone here is the update. Surgery is set for Monday and we have to be there at 6:45 am, the surgeron would not say how long the surgery would take. They are first going to close the two close the two holes in her heart by using tissues from her body, and the major valve he will either fix it or replace it. If he has to replace it she will have to have replaced at 4 years old and then at ...10 years old.

As for the length of time in the hospital is any where from one week to a month. It all depends on how will she does. The incision will be closed with what they call a glue so the scar she will have will be mild.

They also did a chest xray today and her chest is clear and when they did blood work she just laid there talking to the tech or watching tv she never cried at all.

Meladee is starting to drink from a cup

I have been working with Meladee with drinking from a cup, so today I put her in the big high chair today and she started picking up the cup on her own and trying to drink out of it.  I am having so much fun with her and she is growing so fast.
